    So while the device was really cheap and makes a study enough impression considering its cheap price, I can't really use it because the Fire Launcher home screen is bloated with apps I don't need, and some of the apps I want are plainly missing from the amazon app store. However, I can't find a way to set Nova Launcher as the default launcher. I managed to install the Nova Launcher apk by copying it directly onto the Fire and allowing unsigned apps. While it seems that at this point there is no known method to downgrade to an earlier version of Fire OS, nor root without bricking the device, I tried to make do with what is available. I just got a used but near mint condition Kindle Fire 7 5th generation which unfortunately came with Fire OS 5.3.1.0.
